    Ireland's construction boom has led to a greater appreciation of the role of the Architectural Technologist for a variety of reasons; there have been significant changes in the standards and techniques used in modern construction; the vast bulk of architectural drawings are produced using computer aided design; building legislation has been enacted to ensure the protection of the environment and the public have become more discerning in their appreciation of architecture. Architectural education is at a point of change. Architects are still primarily designers but their relationships with the other architectural professions have become more intricate with an increasing complexity of building and design technologies.
    The aim of this Programme is to produce graduates capable of demonstrating an in-depth knowledge and a range of high level skills and competencies necessary for employment as architectural technologists.

    On successful completion of the programme the graduate will be able to:
    • Apply current building technologies in design.
    • Effectively detail a complexity of building types
    • Identify and distinguish design team responsibilities and relevant contract procurement methods
    • Produce and assemble drawings for planning application
    • Apply the current Building Regulations
    • Conduct basic land surveys and measure buildings
    • Produce construction drawings
    • Demonstrate time management skills
    • Demonstrate communication & IT skills
    • Interpret building contract documents
    • Work independently and as part of a team
