Unique progression opportunities for Pharmacy Technician students
Letterkenny Institute of Technology and Ulster University sign formal agreement which gives LYIT Pharmacy Technician students unique progression opportunities in the North West
Letterkenny Institute of Technology (LYIT) has for many years formed partnerships and agreements with academic institutions throughout Ireland. The most recent, between the Department of Science at LYIT with the Faculty of Life and Health Sciences at Ulster University offers students an opportunity to progress their studies from the Higher Certificate in Science (Pharmacy Technician) at LYIT to the Masters of Pharmacy programme at Ulster University.
Dr Joanne Gallagher, Head of Department of Science, commented, “We are delighted to have established this partnership with Ulster University. Graduates of the Higher Certificate in Science (Pharmacy Technician) at LYIT, who have met the minimum Ulster University entry requirements, will automatically gain entry to the four-year Master of Pharmacy programme at Ulster University. This is a unique progression opportunity for LYIT graduates. The agreement, between LYIT and Ulster University, provides a pathway for students who wish to study Pharmacy.”
Ulster University’s Head of School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Professor Paul McCarron said, “With Ulster University recently named as the UK’s top university for Pharmacy and Pharmacology in the Guardian League table for the third year running, this exciting new partnership will enable even more people to access one of the best university-level pharmacy teaching experiences currently available. We very much look forward to welcoming the first students from Letterkenny Institute of Technology to our Master of Pharmacy course in September 2016.”
Dr Joanne Gallagher further commented, “We have already seen a number of LYIT graduates successfully progress from the Higher Certificate programme at the Institute to the Masters of Pharmacy programme at Ulster University. This agreement formalizes the articulation for LYIT students.”
