Teastas Eorpach na Gaeilge examinations

LYIT participates in Irish language programme.

In November 2009, LYIT hosted an award ceremony for organisations and individuals who successfully completed the Teastas Eorpach na Gaeilge (TEG) examinations this year.  The TEG system of learning aims to help people improve their Irish language skills.

A number of organisations participated in the programme including Donegal County Council, County Donegal VEC, Teagasc, Údarás na Gaeltachta and LYIT.

The TEG syllabus was developed by NUI Maynooth under the Common European Framework for Languages and provides accreditation at various levels to those seeking to obtain a recognised qualification in Irish. Representatives from Ionad na dTeangacha in NUI Maynooth presented the Certificates to the successful candidates from the various organisations.

The syllabus was introduced at LYIT recently to provide staff with an opportunity to enhance their skills in Irish in line with the new legislation under Acht na dTeangacha Oifigiúla, 2003 (Official Languages Act, 2003).

Speaking about the Irish Language programme Rachel Akkoç, Contact for the Official Languages Act said, “Congratulations to all those who successfully completed the TEG syllabus. It shows there is still quite a bit of interest in refreshing Irish skills and applying the language in everyday life. We look forward to a full complement again next year.”
